It is a body of water mostly known for its annual canoe race beginning at Saint-Patrice-de-Beaurivage, Quebec and finishing at Saint-Gilles, Quebec. The Beaurivage River is the unofficial symbol of Saint-Gilles, declaring themselves: "Capital of the Beaurivage." The river floods every year, due to the receding ices that melt during the spring. Usually, the town of Saint-Étienne is the most affected by the floods, causing road closures. No major incident has ever been reported.
